In this ending, Dr. Neville survives after realizing that the infected beings possess their own social structures and are not merely mindless creatures. This perspective shift suggests that humanity’s era as the dominant species has concluded, a theme the sequel intends to explore further.

Goldsman has also drawn inspiration from the HBO series “The Last of Us,” noting an interest in depicting how the world evolves after a significant time lapse post-apocalypse. This approach will likely highlight the transformation of urban environments like New York City as nature reclaims them.

As of now, there is no official release date for “I Am Legend 2,” but it is anticipated to premiere in late 2025 or early 2026.
