Predator is a 1987 sci-fi action thriller that follows an elite military rescue team as they encounter a deadly extraterrestrial hunter in the jungles of Central America.

The story begins with Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer leading a team of highly skilled commandos – including Mac, Blain, Billy, Poncho, and Hawkins – on what they believe is a straightforward rescue mission. They’re tasked with locating a helicopter crew shot down in guerrilla-controlled territory in Val Verde. Dutch’s former CIA contact, Dillon, briefs the team and joins the mission.

Once in the jungle, the team discovers the helicopter crew’s remains in a horrifying state – skinned and hung from trees. They also find a guerrilla camp and successfully assault it, taking Anna, a female prisoner. However, Dutch realizes they’ve been deceived when he discovers the helicopter crew were actually CIA agents on an intelligence mission, not the cabinet ministers Dillon claimed they were rescuing.

As the team begins their extraction, they become aware they’re being stalked by an unseen enemy. Team members start disappearing one by one in gruesome fashion. Blain is killed first by an invisible attacker using advanced weaponry that leaves devastating wounds. The creature’s thermal vision allows it to track the humans while remaining completely camouflaged.

Billy, the team’s tracker, senses the supernatural nature of their pursuer. Mac becomes increasingly unhinged after Blain’s death, obsessed with hunting their invisible enemy. The team attempts various strategies to fight back, including covering themselves in mud after Dutch discovers the creature hunts using thermal imaging.

Through glimpses of the alien’s perspective and brief visual distortions, the audience learns they’re facing the Predator – a technologically advanced extraterrestrial hunter that comes to Earth to hunt dangerous prey for sport. It collects human skulls as trophies and follows a warrior’s code of honor.

One by one, the Predator kills Mac, Dillon, Poncho, and Billy, leaving only Dutch and Anna. In a desperate final act, Dutch sends Anna to the extraction point while he stays to face the creature alone. Using guerrilla tactics and primitive weapons, Dutch manages to wound the Predator and force it to reveal itself.

The climax features a brutal hand-to-hand combat between Dutch and the unmasked Predator. Though outmatched physically, Dutch uses his intelligence and the jungle environment to his advantage. When defeated, the Predator activates a self-destruct device, nearly killing Dutch in the massive explosion. Dutch barely escapes and is rescued, forever changed by his encounter with the ultimate predator.
