Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018)
Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018) is the sixth installment in the Tremors franchise, blending creature-feature horror with comedy. Directed by Don Michael Paul, the film follows the iconic and eccentric survivalist Burt Gummer (played by Michael Gross) as he faces a new wave of terror involving the infamous subterranean monsters, the Graboids, and their airborne counterparts, the Ass-Blasters.
Plot Summary:
The story begins when Burt and his resourceful sidekick, Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy), are called to investigate a series of deadly Graboid attacks at a remote research station in the Canadian Arctic. Initially, they find it unusual for the desert-dwelling Graboids to appear in such a cold, snowy environment. However, they soon discover that global warming has thawed a prehistoric layer of permafrost, releasing the creatures.
As the attacks escalate, Burt becomes gravely ill due to a Graboid toxin he was exposed to in a previous encounter. To survive, Burt must harvest antibodies from a live Graboid—a task that requires them to capture one of the deadly creatures alive, which proves to be no easy feat.
Meanwhile, the team faces challenges from the harsh Arctic conditions, corporate meddling, and the ever-adaptive Graboids and Ass-Blasters. Amid the chaos, Burt and Travis must work together to save themselves and the research team while stopping the Graboids from potentially spreading beyond the Arctic.
Highlights:
- Setting: The Arctic location provides a fresh twist to the series, offering icy landscapes and a unique survival scenario.
- Humor and Action: The film retains the series’ signature mix of humor and monster-driven action.
- Michael Gross: Burt Gummer’s gruff, paranoid charm remains a standout, driving much of the film’s appeal.
Though it largely caters to fans of the franchise, Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell delivers fun, campy thrills with an updated environment and high-stakes monster mayhem.
