Brink
It’s hard to deny ‘Brink’ the title of greatest Disney Channel Original Movie ever. We all know there are some great DCOMs, and calling one the greatest is a pretty bold statement. ‘Brink’ resonated with many of us, regardless of our interest in rollerblading. The Soul Skaters stole our hearts.
‘Brink’ premiered in 1998 and starred Erik von Detten, Christina Vidal, Patrick Levis, Asher Gold and Sam Horrigan, along with supporting roles by Geoffrey Blake, Walter Emmanuel Jones and Katie Volding. Beware, if you haven’t seen the movie you may want to watch it before continuing.
Andy “Brink” Brinker and his pals love to skate for fun. They call themselves “Soul Skaters” because they won’t sell out and don’t skate for money. However, when Brink learns of his family’s financial struggles, he secretly joins Team X-Bladz, a sponsored team offering $200 a week.
Brink is a true teenage family man, working a job while putting his beliefs aside to skate for money. When his friends find out, they feel betrayed, but eventually understand and come around when he forms Team Pup n Suds (he gave them new gear too), sponsored by the dog washing company he works for.
‘Brink’ is a classic, with Erik von Detten winning us over with his charm. It’s a movie you can watch over and over without growing tired of it.
