The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead franchise continues to thrive in 2025, expanding its universe with multiple projects rather than a single standalone movie. While a Walking Dead film was initially planned focusing on Rick Grimes, AMC instead developed The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which premiered in early 2024. This six-episode limited series, starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, explores Rick and Michonne’s journey after their separation in the main series. Originally meant to be a trilogy of films, the project shifted into a series format to allow for deeper storytelling and character development.

Set in a world overrun by the undead, The Ones Who Live follows Rick, who was taken by the Civic Republic Military (CRM) and forced into servitude. Meanwhile, Michonne embarks on a perilous journey to find him. Their reunion is fraught with danger as they navigate a world controlled by powerful factions. The series blends action, drama, and intense emotional stakes, culminating in a gripping conclusion. While season two has not been officially announced, AMC has hinted at the possibility of continuing their story if demand remains strong.

Beyond The Ones Who Live, another major Walking Dead project set for 2025 is the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City. This series follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they venture into post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The first season introduced a dangerous faction called “The Croat” and set the stage for a larger power struggle in the city. Season two is expected to intensify the conflict, with Maggie and Negan potentially becoming rivals rather than allies. The show continues to explore themes of survival, trust, and redemption, particularly for Negan, whose past actions still haunt him.

The second season, subtitled The Book of Carol, will reunite Daryl with his longtime ally Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), promising new challenges in their journey.
