Meanwhile, back in Wisborg, Hutter’s wife **Ellen** becomes increasingly aware of the danger posed by Orlok. She learns from a book that the only way to defeat a vampire is for a virtuous woman to sacrifice herself and distract him until dawn. Determined to save her husband and the town, Ellen invites Orlok into their home.

In a climactic scene, as Orlok feeds on Ellen’s blood, the sun rises, causing him to dissolve into ashes. Ellen dies in Hutter’s arms after fulfilling her role in vanquishing the vampire. The film ends with Hutter mourning his wife as they both face the consequences of their encounter with Nosferatu.
