Plot Summary
The story centers on Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins), a mute janitor working in a secretive government research facility in Baltimore. Lonely and isolated, Elisa’s routine life takes a dramatic turn when she discovers a classified government project: an amphibious creature (played by Doug Jones) captured from the Amazon and held in captivity for experimentation. Elisa, however, feels an immediate connection with the creature and begins secretly visiting him. As their connection grows, Elisa becomes determined to free him from captivity, enlisting the help of her friends, including her neighbor Giles (Richard Jenkins) and coworker Zelda (Octavia Spencer). Together, they plot a daring escape, risking everything to protect the creature from Strickland’s cruel intentions.
