Years have passed since Happy Gilmore’s legendary victory in the Pro Golf Tour, and life has changed significantly for the hockey-player-turned-golfing-phenom. Now in his late 40s, Happy is enjoying a quieter life, running a golf academy for underprivileged kids alongside his wife, Virginia. His days of high-stakes competition are behind him, or so he thinks.

Happy’s peaceful retirement is disrupted when his old nemesis, Shooter McGavin, announces a comeback tour, using a flashy new sponsorship deal to promote himself as the ultimate golf icon. Shooter challenges Happy to a series of exhibition matches, claiming that Happy’s unconventional style was a fluke that tarnished the sport.

Initially reluctant, Happy is drawn back to the greens when he learns that Shooter’s promotional antics are threatening to demolish the local community center where Happy first honed his skills. To save the center, Happy must not only face Shooter again but also compete in a new, high-stakes international tournament.

Happy recruits his best friend, Chubbs Peterson Jr., the son of his late mentor, to help him get back into shape. Along the way, Happy struggles to balance his responsibilities at the academy, his newfound role as a father figure to a rebellious young golfer, and his rivalry with Shooter, who hasn’t lost his knack for dirty tricks.
